.....................doing what they were born to do........RUN!!!!!!! These five dogs may look mean, but they are exactly the opposite. Some people assume that because they are muzzled during races, they are mean and unpredictable. This is not true, they are muzzled to keep them from accidently nipping each other during the excitement of the chase. Another reason they are muzzled is to keep them from hurting their mouths if they should actually catch the mechanical lure. But, the main reason they are muzzled is to make it easier to tell the winner in a close race. When their racing careers are over, what happens to these dogs? A few
are selected to go back to farms to produce future racers, but most of
these Greyhounds wait
patiently for adoptive homes. Finding enough homes for greyhounds can be a
challenge for most adoption groups because so many people If you adopt a retired racing greyhound, you will be rewarded with years of unconditional love and companionship. I recommend doing as much research as you can before you make a decision to adopt a Greyhound (or any other breed of dog). There are many informative web sites dedicated to Greyhounds (visit my links page for a few of my favorites). Also, click on the link below to meet my retired racer, Buster.
